God's Cake

Sometimes we wonder, “What did I do to deserve
this?” or “Why did God have to do this to me?”

Here is a wonderful explanation!

A daughter is telling her mother how everything is going wrong:

She’s failing algebra.

Her boyfriend broke up with her.

AND her best friend is moving away.

Meanwhile, her Mother is baking a cake and asks her daughter
if she would like a snack, and the daughter says,
“Absolutely, Mom, I love your cake.”

“Here, have some cooking oil,” her Mother offers.

“Yuck,” says her daughter.

“How about a couple raw eggs?”

“Gross, Mom!”

“Would you like some flour then? Or maybe baking soda?”

“Mom, those are all yucky!”

To which the mother replies:
“Yes, all those things seem bad by themselves.

But when they are put together in the right way,
they make a wonderfully delicious cake!

God Works The Same Way.

Many times we wonder why He would let us go through such bad and difficult times.

But God knows that when He puts these things all
in His order, they always work for good!

We just have to trust Him and, eventually,
they will all make something wonderful!

God is CRAZY about you.

He sends you flowers every spring and a sunrise every morning.

Whenever you want to talk, He’ll listen.

GOD can live anywhere in the universe and He chose your heart.

My New Addition / Bartering

Bartering is a good thing. I love being able to barter for things that I want or need with others that want or need something that I have. Here is my latest acquisition. She is a beauty. I got her on a barter. woo hoo!! She's an Eqyptian Red Eye, Singer 66, 1910. I haven't even tried to run her to see if she works, but I don't care if she does or not, she's a beauty to look at. Oh, an look at that alligator skin cake. How cool is that? I wonder if she is a modified treadle. Would love to know her history...all the people that have loved her over the years, what young girl learnred to sew on this. Was it a gift to a new Bride? Who was this Elizabeth that scratched her name on it? I'll never know but love to image all the clothes and quilts that were made on this. Although, I suspect that it wasn't used too much as most of the goldwork is still on it. There is very little wear and tear. Who's prized possession was this or was it put into a cabinet for years on end, neglected? She's a showcase now at my home and will always be proudly displayed.

WOOOO HOOOOOO - Colt McCoy

Colt, I know that you willl never read this but here it is. =) Congrats on the Bowl win and being named MVP. The game just ended and I watched your acceptance speech. We live on the back side of your grandparents land and your granddaddy Burl was out working on his fence a couple weeks ago. Our dogs were going crazy out there so I thought it was a rattlesnake...but it wasn't, it was your grandad. I told him that I bet they were mighty proud of you. He said they sure are but their biggest hope is that you keep your head on straight. I know that he would be so proud of you right now because the very first thanks you gave were to Jesus Christ, your Lord and Savior. I know that you will one day make it big in the NFL and you will be in the perfect position not only to say those words but to show others that you live those word I know your whole family does. Gosh, I remember watching your dad and your uncle Michael play football in high school. Seems like just yesterday. =)

T'was the month after Christmas

T'was the month after Christmas, and all through the house,
nothing would fit me, not even a blouse;
The cookies I'd nibbled, the eggnog I had to taste,
at the holiday parties had gone to my waist;

When I got on the scales there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber),
I'd remember the marvelous meals I'd prepared,
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared;

The wine and the rum balls; the bread and the cheese,
and the way I'd never said, "No thank you, please."
As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt,
and prepared once again to do battle with dirt,
I said to myself, as only I can,
"You can't spend winter disguised as a man!"

So, away with the last of the sour cream dip.
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip.
Every last bit of food that I like must be banished,
'til all the additional ounces have vanished.

I won't have a cookie--not even a lick.
I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick.
I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie,
I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.

I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore,
But isn't that what January is for?
Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.
Happy New Year to all and to all a good diet!

Kids keep on growing

I sure hope that i can keep a better track of this blog this year than I have in the past. Briana has been visiting for Christmas break and will be leaving all too soon. It has been wonderful to have her home. The boys have sure loved being around their big sister. She took some wonderful photos last week that I want to share. I think she has quite an eye for photography. She does come by in honestly since we have several professional photographers and amateur photographers in the family.
Marshall : 7
Morgan: 5
Blake: 11

Blake has a penchant for photography too and got in on the picture taking that day. He took a great picture of Briana (16)

I'll have to load more pictures in my Webshots album:

Flipping between the blogs

What little blogging I have done, I have been doing on my website, but I sure like blogging on here. If you don't many posts here, go to http://www.splintersandthreads.com/blog

I can't believe summer is here already. I have one kid that just graduated from high school (boo hoo!!) and the youngest will be entering Kindergarten this next year. It has been hectic this last month with graduation doings, business, Michael's working him long hours and on weekends, and 2 of our cats had babies within a day of each other. Our dogs like the kittens too much and try to carry them like their mommas do and we usually end up with a headless body (GROSS!) and then one of our dogs will sit there and lick and lick it trying to get it to wake up. hopefully we won't lose any like that this year.

One thing I WOULD like to lose are the snakes! we have had 6 rattlesnakes in the past couple months. I am deathly afraid of them (major phobia!). I start hyperventilating and end up having nightmares for a week where I wake myself up screaming. If they wouldn't keep coming straight into our driveway and onto the carport or into the detached laundry room it wouldn't be so bad, but I don't want them close to my house at all. Many people have offered many ways to get rid of them, but i've heard none of them work and I can't even imagine trying to moth ball 7 acres. LOL

okay, back to work. Lord, please send some rain and cooler weather.
